Der Helm of Awe ist zusammen mit der Triqueta und dem Valknut mit der Asatru-Religion verbunden. Die Asatru-Religion ist eine moderne Version der alten nordischen Glaubensvorstellungen. 1973 war das Jahr der Wiederbelebung dieser alten Religion. Ein Leben nach Asatru bedeutet, sich an die neun Tugenden des Asatru zu halten: Mut, Wahrheit, Ehre, Treue, Gastfreundschaft, Disziplin, Fleiß, Eigenverantwortung und Ausdauer.

Unabhängig von seiner Verbindung zur Asatru-Religion zeichneten Frauen in der nordischen Geschichte oft das Helm of Awe-Symbol zwischen den Augen auf die Stirn zur Schutzwirkung. Am besten wirkt es, wenn es mit Blut oder Spucke eingeritzt wurde. Das Symbol wurde ebenfalls häufig auf die Innenseiten von Helmen gemalt, sodass es zwischen den Augen lag.
